Picking up “Doubt -15-nenme no Fukushu-” as my fall project.

This 13-episode original suspense drama stars Nimura Sawa as lead, co-starring Sato Taiki. Since the first two eps coincide with my trip, there might be a delay with those.

Synopsis:

15 years ago, a serial killer known as ‘The Bat’ sent shockwaves through Japan before vanishing without a trace. At every crime scene, black petals were scattered beside the bodies. However, with neither the killer’s identity nor their motive ever established, the case remains unsolved.

Clinical psychologist Ando Kaede (Nimura Sawa) is one of the surviving family members whose parents were murdered by ‘The Bat’. She, too, was caught up in the incident and held captive in complete darkness for six months. Through that ordeal, her sense of hearing grew razor-sharp, leaving her with extraordinary auditory perception capable of discerning subtle shifts in a person’s breathing or even the beating of their heart. Utilizing that as a weapon, she sees through people’s inner thoughts and assists in police investigations. However, her true motive lies elsewhere: to hunt down ‘The Bat’ and exact her revenge.

Meanwhile, her younger brother with whom she shares no blood relation, Okusawa Yukiji (Sato Taiki), is another victim whose life was thrown off course by ‘The Bat’ after his father was murdered. Driven solely by the desire to catch the ‘The Bat’ and make them pay for their crimes, he became a detective. He’s assigned to the First Investigation Division of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police, where he stands on the front line of investigations.

Now, 15 years later, a new murder tied to ‘The Bat’ takes place. Why did ‘The Bat’ disappear for 15 years, and who is ‘The Bat’ really? As they hunt down the killer’s identity, both must face their pasts to unravel the truth behind an investigation 15 years in the making.
